About Word War Daily Puzzles
Word War is a free daily word puzzle inspired by the global phenomenon Wordle. Every day at midnight, a new five-letter word is chosen as the answer. You get six attempts to guess it, with colored tile feedback after each guess: green means the letter is correct and in the right position, yellow means the letter is in the word but in the wrong spot, and gray means the letter is not in the word at all.
Unlike the original Wordle, Word War lets you play past puzzles anytime. Missed a day? No problem. You can replay any previous puzzle from the answer archive. This makes Word War perfect for players who want to practice or compete with friends on the same puzzle, regardless of when they play.
How Word War Compares to Wordle
Word War follows the same core rules as the New York Times Wordle: guess a five-letter word in six tries with colored feedback tiles. However, Word War adds several features that enhance the experience:
- Unlimited replays -- play any past puzzle by number or date
- No account required -- start playing instantly in your browser
- Daily and archive modes -- tackle today's puzzle or browse hundreds of past ones
- Companion tools -- use the Word Unscrambler, 5-Letter Word Finder, and daily hints to improve your game
The word lists differ slightly between Word War and the NYT Wordle, so answers will not always match. This page shows the official Word War answer for each day.
Tips for Solving Today's Puzzle
If you have not played today's Word War yet, here are some quick tips to help you solve it before checking the answer:
- Start with a strong opener. Words like SLATE, CRANE, or TRACE test common letters and give you maximum information. See our full best starting words guide.
- Pay attention to yellow tiles. A yellow letter is confirmed in the word -- just not in that position. Move it to a different spot on your next guess.
- Eliminate letters systematically. Use gray results to rule out letters and narrow down possibilities. Our 5-letter word finder can help you filter remaining options.
- Think about common patterns. Many five-letter words end in -TION, -IGHT, -OUND, or -ASTE. Recognizing these patterns helps you guess faster.
- Need a nudge? Check the daily hints page for clues about today's word without fully spoiling the answer.
Pro tip: Try to solve it yourself first. The satisfaction of cracking the puzzle on your own is what makes Word War so addictive. Use this answer page only as a last resort or to verify your guess after playing.
